What causes it
Pet urine, vomit and muddy paw marks combine protein, uric acid salts and bacteria. Uric acid crystallises inside carpet backing and padding, so odour returns with humidity even after the surface looks clean.
How to remove it
- 1Blot up as much liquid as possible with towels.
- 2Rinse lightly with cool water and blot again.
- 3Saturate with an enzymatic pet cleaner and leave it wet for 10 minutes.
- 4Blot dry and weigh a towel down over it overnight.
- 5Never use ammonia-based cleaners on urine.
Written for synthetic carpet and washable fabric. Wool rugs and antique carpet should be cleaned professionally.
