Ink and Marker Stain Removal
What causes it
Ballpoint, gel and permanent markers use solvent-based dyes designed to resist water. Once the solvent evaporates, the pigment sits inside the fibre with nothing water-soluble left to lift.
How to remove it
- 1Place a paper towel under the stain.
- 2Dab isopropyl alcohol or hand sanitiser with a cotton bud.
- 3Blot upward as the ink transfers to the towel.
- 4Rinse with cold water.
- 5Wash with detergent once the mark is gone.
Written for cotton and poly-cotton. Alcohol can strip dye from silk, acetate and leather — test on a hidden area or use a professional.
