Grease and Cooking Oil Stain Removal
What causes it
Cooking oil, butter, salad dressing and motor grease leave a lipid film that water cannot dissolve. Oils oxidise into a yellow-brown residue and migrate deeper into fibre cores over time.
How to remove it
- 1Scrape off any excess without spreading it.
- 2Dust with cornstarch or talc and wait 15 minutes.
- 3Brush the powder away.
- 4Work in dish soap with a soft brush.
- 5Wash at the warmest temperature the fabric allows.
Written for cotton and synthetic blends. Suede, leather and unlined silk should go to a professional cleaner.
