Chocolate Stain Removal
What causes it
Chocolate mixes fat, milk protein and dark pigment, so it needs both a degreaser and an enzyme. The fat sets like wax as it cools and traps pigment underneath it, hiding the stain from detergent.
How to remove it
- 1Harden the residue with an ice cube and scrape it off.
- 2Rinse the back with cold water.
- 3Apply dish soap to cut the cocoa butter.
- 4Follow with an enzyme detergent for the milk protein.
- 5Wash cold and check before drying.
Written for cotton and jersey knits. Wool and cashmere need a wool-safe detergent or professional care.
