Blood Stain Removal
What causes it
Blood is a protein stain carrying iron-rich haemoglobin that bonds to fibre as it clots. Warm water denatures the protein and effectively glues it in place, turning fresh red into a set brown mark.
How to remove it
- 1Rinse under cold running water from the reverse side.
- 2Soak in cold water with a splash of salt for 30 minutes.
- 3Dab 3% hydrogen peroxide on white fabric only.
- 4Rub in an enzyme laundry detergent.
- 5Wash cold and air dry.
Written for washable cotton and bedding. Mattresses, wool and leather need a specialist. This is cleaning guidance only.
